Plot:
The story is about the critical role of Timmarusu (Gummadi) played during the reign of Sri Krishnadevaraya (NTR). The story begins with the pattabhishekam of Sri Krishnadevaraya. Before the function, he participates in the dance and music function of Chinna Devi (Vijayalaxmi). They get married and becomes his first queen. After coronation, Timmarusu arranges the marriAge with Tirumala Devi (S. Varalaxmi) daughter of Srirangapatnam kingdom. Timmarusu slaps him on the cheek to remind him about the kickbacks while seating on the crown. He plans to attack Gajapati of Kalinga kingdom lonely. Knowing about this Timmarusu reaches Kalinga and protects him. Prataparudra Gajapathi (Mukkamala) wanted to kill him with the help of his son Veerabhadra Gajapathi (Prabhakar Reddy). However his daughter Annapurna Devi (Devika) openly opposes it and loves him. In a political dialogue, Prataparudra agrees to marry his daughter to Krishnadevaraya. After the marriAge, he plans to kills him. With the help of Timmarusu he comes out of danger. They reach the Hampi with Rani Annapurna Devi along with Hamvira (Lingamurthy). Annapurna gives birth to Tirumala Raya. Hamvira creates differences between Krishnadevaraya and Timmarusu and kills Tirumala Raya. He convinces Rayalu that Timmarusu is the culprit. The court on the instructions from Rayalu orders to make him blind and imprison him. Before Rayalu Knows the fact, the punishment is implemented. However Timmarusu pardons him and their relationship continued.

During the days of the Vijayanagara Empire there was a system to bring willing women to the royal palace and render them official residents. This was called 'Rani Vasam'. According to this royal tradition, they sent palanquins to their houses, after they presented the family with gifts and jewellery. These Rani Vasam women should never have any contact with any man or let any man see them without permission. If any one violated the law, they were beheaded.
Malleswari (Bhanumathi) was taken to this Rani Vasam. She was forced to accept this, for lure of money and jewellery by her mother. But she was already in love with her 'Bava' Nagaraju (N.T. Rama Rao), a sculptor. He stealthily got into the garden of the palace to meet his beloved and was caught. He was to get the death penalty. Krishnadevaraya for once pardoned the hero and allowed Malleswari to go with him.

Plot:
NTR plays Rajasekhar, a young lawyer who starts his practice and wins his first case. He is the son of a bigshot Sasibhushan rao (Jaggayya) and brother of Padma (Jayalakshmi). Padma falls in love with Kishore (Chiranjeevi) who is a singer playing guitar at local clubs. Sasibhushan rao does not accept their love and insult Kishore for his poverty. Padma attempts suicide by consuming sleeping pills but her brother Rajasekhar saves her on time and performs her marriAge with Kishore during the absence of their father. Their father gets angry at them but excuses his daughter and gets close to them when she gives birth to a kid. Rajasekhar on the other hand keeps meeting a girl, Rati and her uncle Allu, who cheat people for money. He tries to reform them and employs them in his own office. In an unexpected incident, Rajasekhar realises that his father was related to a smuggling gang who deals with gold and diamonds. His father is killed but does not reveal anything about the gang. Rajasekhar meets Gangulu (Satyanarayana) who was once helped by his father and tries to take his advice in bursting the gang. In his attempts he is shocked to know that Kishore (Chiru) is involved with the gang. He warns Kishore to quit this and help him to trace their boss. Kishore doesn't listen to him but when his boss kidnaps his kid and asks him to kill Rajasekhar, Kishore understands where he is standing and decides to turn in favour of his brother-in-law. Both heroes cheat the gang and enter their den to realise that their boss is none other than Gangulu, who was acting all the way by being on Rajasekhar's side. The movie ends with the heroes fighting the gang out and saving Kishore's child.
